If the argument -downloadonly is used, the command downloads only the specified package. Yum install installs the latest version of a package or a group of packages and its dependencies. Yum upgrade is equivalent to yum update -obsoletes, the argument -obsoletes including obsolete packages. Yum update updates the specified package (if specified) or all packages (if no package name is specified) and ensures that all dependencies are met but ignores obsolete packages. These packages are stored in remote repositories from which packages can be downloaded and installed. Yum ("Yellowdog Updater Modified") allows you to install packages and their dependencies.
